Woman in a Mouse Mask is an experimental short that explores the cyclical nature of trauma and while focusing on the guilt that accompanies self-representation in the context of a practicing artist. Using Art SpiegelmanŐs seminal novel MAUS as primary source material, the short film reexamines the visual spaces of the graphic novel in a photographic way by integrating them simultaneously. Using the mouse mask as a strong symbol of Jewish identification, I attempt to portray a younger generation fraught with lingering effect of past generationsŐs traumas along with a slew of conflicting personal labels and codes of identification. Drawing on tropes of Guy MaddinŐs short silent film, the video is a single channel 4-minute film. To accompany the video, there are large scale prints that act not only as stills but articulate the themes of the work in a new way.
